I quickly changed that and had no issues hitting 8" steel at 100yards. Gentleman I bought it from had it for 20 or 30 years and never fired it. It took me 4 hours of careful disassembly and thorough cleaning of decades-old dirt and grease. Bolt has minor pitting and quite a lot of patina. ![]() Bore, barrel exterior and receiver condition are very good. The barrelled action was likely taken off a damage rifle and a replacement stock, and metal parts installed. I assume these depots were WW1 German repair and/or logistics facilities? Anyone have information on the depots? The rifle is nearly all force-matched, but done so by the depot it appears. I have been told the #8 on the butt plate was for the Ingolstadt depot. I have a depot marked 1905 Gew98 made by Mauser in Oberndorf. ![]()
